Advancing Energy Efficiency in Water Utilities: SALVIS Framework by IANIC at Pi 2025 – 10th International Water Association Conference, 8–11 June 2025, Poznań, Poland
IANIC, Member of Olympios Group is proud to share their participation in the Pi 2025, 10th IWA Conference, presenting cutting-edge research on pump energy optimization. Anastasia A. Papadopoulou, Senior Engineer, R&D and Innovation, presented the peer-reviewed paper: “Redrawing Pump Characteristic Curves Under Real Operating Conditions in Water Supply Networks”. A topic that bridges science, operations, and utility performance.
The research introduces SALVIS, an intelligent control framework designed to improve the energy efficiency of water pumping systems. Central to the approach is the Best Electricity Use Point (BEUP), an advanced benchmark that integrates real-time data to identify optimal pump operation under real-world conditions.
The pioneering experimental approach was successfully applied in the water supply network of Kos Island, where it led to measurable energy savings. Field data showed that, unlike traditional efficiency points, the BEUP defines a multi-dimensional zone of optimal performance where energy use per m3 of water delivered is minimized.
SALVIS unlocks real energy and cost savings for water operators. It offers a clear path to smarter, data-driven investments in digital and energy-efficient infrastructure. Olympios Group remain committed to delivering intelligent, interoperable, and sustainable solutions for the future of water infrastructure – scientifically, efficiently, and responsibly.
