On Thursday 17 September 2026, Olympios Group took part as a Premium Sponsor in Siemens Tech Summit Athens 2026 at Asteria Glyfada, joining more than 500 customers, partners and industry leaders. This year’s theme, “Turning technology into real-world impact,” reflects the way we approach every project, and it gave us the chance to share our view on how digital technologies are reshaping critical infrastructure.
Our Group Commercial Officer, Athanasios Vacharidis, joined the panel discussion “Driving Sustainable Growth and Innovation in Water Infrastructure,” alongside George Karagiannis, Executive Director of Water Supply, EYDAP SA, and Tasos Labropoulos, Head of Automation & Control Systems, AKATT. The discussion was moderated by Spyros Lakkas, Siemens.
Speaking on the water infrastructure panel, our Group Commercial Officer, Athanasios Vacharidis, highlighted the need to combine technological innovation with the protection of critical infrastructure. “Artificial intelligence and digital twins are our promise for the future,” he said. He noted that most operators already have equipment and data, whether across part of their network or all of it.
He described AI as a technology with significant potential, but one that must be adopted carefully, especially when it comes to cybersecurity. He also stressed that reliable data is essential for building an effective digital twin. “Water data needs protection just as much as water infrastructure does,” he said. In his view, operators need both trustworthy data and infrastructure that is protected from digital threats.
He added that bringing AI and digital twins into water networks is about more than upgrading technology. It also changes operational culture and transforms the services that utilities provide.
The panel reached a shared conclusion on the digitalization of water infrastructure. Before AI and digital twins can deliver value, data has to be collected, organized and protected reliably. With that foundation in place, these technologies can help operators manage their networks more efficiently, reduce water losses and modernize their services.
